Robert Machol, in his POR series, apparently originally from “The Official Rules” by Paul Dickson (Delta, 1978). To illustrate the point of this principle, Machol points out that some years ago an ABM expert said that for optimal protection the entire continental United States could be covered with a mile-thick layer of peanut butter--it would be impenetrable and have the support of the peanut industry. Says Machol, “The point of this anecdote is that the solutions which may be suggested for a problem are inexhaustible.”
